Australia plans to amend laws to encourage tech giants to pay for news content. On August 3, local time, foreign media reported that the Australian government announced the final draft of the "News Bargaining Incentive Bill," which will soon be submitted for review. According to the bill, if large tech companies do not sign content usage licensing agreements with Australian media companies, they will be required to pay a subsidy amounting to 2.5% of their digital advertising revenue in Australia. This tax applies to companies that own significant social media or search services in Australia and have local revenue exceeding AUD 250 million, while AI companies remain excluded from the bill.
