Hackers have discovered a vulnerability in a Bitcoin "cold wallet" software. Such wallets have long been considered one of the safest ways to store cryptocurrencies, but attackers are exploiting this vulnerability to continuously steal cryptocurrencies worth tens of millions of dollars. Last weekend, Canadian company Coinkite Inc. notified Coldcard hardware wallet users that there is a security flaw in the key generation mechanism designed to protect their Bitcoins, with some wallets affected. Data from Galaxy Research indicates that as of Monday, attackers had siphoned off over 1,755 Bitcoins from approximately 5,000 wallets, amounting to around $110 million based on the market value at the time. Coldcard is a hardware wallet that allows users to store Bitcoins in what is referred to as a "cold wallet." Due to its isolation from the internet, cold wallets have long been regarded as the safest method for storing cryptocurrencies.
