Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon clearly stated his support for advancing the CLARITY Act during an interview, despite acknowledging that the bill is not perfect. "Like all legislation, the CLARITY Act has many areas that can be debated and disputed, but I believe one of the most important things it does is create a level playing field to enhance market stability and allow these markets to develop properly. I strongly support advancing the CLARITY Act so that we can establish some market structure and begin to drive the innovation process." Solomon's endorsement comes as Republican senators are discussing updates to the bill text, with a highly anticipated vote expected in the Senate next week, marking a further step towards the implementation of legislation for the encrypted market structure. Solomon's supportive stance contrasts sharply with the strong opposition from banking industry peers like JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon. Dimon stated in May that the latest version of the bill "allows them to actually pay interest on things like deposits, stablecoins, etc., without the proper protections" and warned that "banks will not accept this method in the end, it will explode". JPMorgan also suggested in a blog post in June that companies providing products with similar functionalities as traditional bank accounts should be subject to equivalent regulation and consumer protection. The controversy revolves around the yield terms of stablecoins.
