The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka reminds Chinese citizens travelling to Sri Lanka to pay attention to their personal and property safety.
On July 24th, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka issued a reminder to Chinese citizens traveling to Sri Lanka to pay attention to their personal and property safety. According to reports from the Sri Lankan police, there have been cases of robbery, theft, and even killings targeting Chinese citizens in Colombo recently, and the relevant cases are currently under investigation. In response to the situation, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has promptly activated its consular protection emergency mechanism, urging the Sri Lankan police to intensify their investigation and solve the cases as soon as possible. As the current summer season sees an increase in Chinese tourists visiting Sri Lanka, the Embassy once again reminds Chinese citizens in Sri Lanka to enhance their awareness of security precautions. It is advisable to travel in groups when going out for recreational activities, avoid carrying large amounts of cash on them, avoid going out late at night, and not go alone to remote places. In case of emergency, one should remain calm, handle the situation wisely, avoid disputes or physical conflicts, promptly report to the local police, and protect their own legitimate rights and interests.
