On Thursday, US President Donald Trump welcomed the latest commitment from power companies and data center developers, demanding that technology companies bear the cost of electricity needed to operate high-energy artificial intelligence systems. "Data centers and artificial intelligence are rapidly increasing power demand. The cost of building new infrastructure to meet this demand should be borne by the companies themselves, not by American consumers," Trump said at an event. The event aimed to promote the new participants of his "Electricity User Protection Commitment" introduced earlier this year. This initiative is not legally binding. Trump said, "Under this groundbreaking plan, the largest technology companies in the United States have formally committed to fund or build all the energy infrastructure needed to meet their additional electricity needs. At the same time, we will allow them to build their own power plants."
