The United Arab Emirates accelerates the construction of new ports to reduce dependency on the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Emirati media reports on the 22nd, against the backdrop of continued tension in the region and obstructed shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE is accelerating the construction of a new port project in the emirate of Fujairah on the east coast, in order to reduce reliance on the Strait of Hormuz, increase the country's container handling capacity and enhance its maritime trade level. It is reported that on that day, Dubai Ports World Group signed a 50-year port concession agreement with the Fujairah Port Authority to promote the construction of the Rugalat Container Port and the Dibba-Fujairah Port projects. Fujairah is located on the east coast of the UAE, overlooking the Arabian Gulf, allowing ships to enter and exit the Indian Ocean without passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the plan, the Rugalat Container Port is designed to handle 2.5 million TEUs per year, and the Dibba-Fujairah Port project will add an additional 3.6 million tons of general cargo handling capacity per year. The project will be implemented in phases, with an estimated construction period of 24 to 30 months.
