Omdia: In the second quarter, smartphone shipments in India decreased by 13% year-on-year, with vivo continuing to lead the market.
According to the latest research from Omdia, the shipment volume of smartphones in India in the second quarter of 2026 decreased by 13% year-on-year to 33.9 million units. The continuous increase in memory costs has led to consecutive price hikes for smartphones, weakening the purchasing power of mass market consumers. In addition, factors such as consumers waiting for holiday promotions to upgrade their devices, depreciation of the Indian Rupee, inflationary pressures, and weak offline retail customer traffic in the summer further suppressed market demand. Despite active new phone releases in the second quarter, manufacturers remain cautious in replenishing channel inventory due to slowing terminal sales and continued increase in channel inventory costs.
In the second quarter of 2026, the performance of manufacturers was as follows: vivo remained the market leader with shipment volume of 6.3 million units. Samsung followed closely with a shipment volume of 5.9 million units. OPPO ranked third with a shipment volume of 4.6 million units. Xiaomi ranked fourth with a shipment volume of 4.5 million units, benefiting mainly from the market performance of Xiaomi 15A and 15C. Apple ranked fifth with a shipment volume of 3.5 million units.
