Auto Industry Association's Fu Bingfeng: The problem of homogeneity among car models is becoming more serious. He calls on car companies to return to rational competition.
On July 22, Feng Bing, Vice President and Secretary General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, stated at the 2026 China Automobile Forum that the current global automotive industry is undergoing a deep adjustment, with a more complex and volatile development environment. The automotive industry is facing both external challenges brought about by low-carbon regulations and geopolitical factors, as well as internal challenges such as intensified domestic competition, the urgent need to break through key core technologies, and structural adjustments in production capacity. The new problems, expressions, and challenges exposed during this transformation process have become urgent issues that the automotive industry must address in the new era. In the first half of this year, more than 500 new cars were introduced to the market, with many car companies pursuing a "bigger and more comprehensive" product layout. The problem of homogeneous models has become more serious, and the industry's aggressive planning goals have triggered widespread operational anxiety. It is advocated that companies compete while maintaining their bottom line and returning to rationality. They should focus on differentiating their strategies, identify their own positioning, abandon short-term opportunism, and establish a long-term development philosophy.
