According to the South Korean media "Chosun Ilbo," the South Korean government has stated that it has held a discussion with major export companies to stabilize the exchange rate through strengthening cooperation between the government and businesses. Heo Jang, the second official of the South Korean Ministry of Planning and Finance, held a meeting on the 21st at the Seoul government building with major export companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Aerospace, and Samsung Heavy Industries. Heo Jang stated that before the export company discussion in June, the exchange rate of the South Korean won to the US dollar had once depreciated to around 1550 won, but with the expansion of foreign exchange settlements by export companies, increased forward foreign exchange sales by shipbuilding companies, and the influx of funds from SK Hynix's ADR issuance, the exchange rate of the Korean won to the US dollar has recently fallen to the range of 1400 won, and the imbalance between foreign exchange supply and demand has been somewhat alleviated. He predicted that in the second half of the year, as semiconductor exports continue to improve, the South Korean foreign exchange supply and demand situation will further improve. The participating companies stated that they will further cooperate with the government to stabilize foreign exchange supply and demand and promote the continued improvement trend in the near term and to ensure stability in the foreign exchange market.
