Wang Yi meets with Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne

Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne in Manila on the 21st. Wang Yi stated that under the joint leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-Australia relations are on track for improvement and development, which is in the interest of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community. China is willing to strengthen exchanges with Australia, build mutual trust, expand cooperation, and promote continuous progress in China-Australia relations. Both sides should handle differences with equal respect, seek common ground while shelving differences, and ensure that bilateral relations achieve a positive cycle and upward development, rather than being disrupted by certain biases. It is hoped that Australia will adhere to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, abandon double standards, work towards China, and maintain the momentum of improving bilateral relations. Marise Payne stated that Australia attaches importance to its relationship with China, firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and does not support "Taiwan independence." Australia is willing to work with China to implement important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance exchanges at all levels, promote mutually beneficial cooperation, handle conflicts and differences through dialogue, and push for the healthy and stable development of Australia-China relations. A peaceful, stable, and prosperous Asia-Pacific region is in the common interests of Australia and China. Australia will support China in hosting this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' informal meeting.
