On the eve of the Houthi rebels declaring their intention to block Saudi Arabia's oil transport, the amount of crude oil exported by Saudi Arabia through the Red Sea ports has reached a record high. During the Iran war, Saudi Arabia shifted some of its crude oil transport from the Persian Gulf to the west coast and then exported it to the international market through the Red Sea, playing a critical role in stabilizing international oil prices. However, with the announcement of the blockade by the Houthi rebels, this supply route is now at risk. If the blockade is successfully implemented, it could further push up crude oil futures prices. According to tanker tracking data, in the week ending on July 17, Saudi Arabia exported a record daily average of 5.9 million barrels of crude oil through the ports of Yanbu. The following week, ending on July 20, the export volume slightly decreased to a daily average of 5.5 million barrels. The above data also includes crude oil supplies to the Jizan region, as well as crude oil supplied to Saudi Aramco refineries and power plants along the Red Sea coast.
