"Before the success of ChatGPT, OpenAI also went through a lot of product explorations, many of which were not successful." On the afternoon of July 17, at the main forum of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Jiang Xu, founder and CEO of BrightSource Innovations and core contributor to ChatGPT, shared his views. As a Chinese scientist, Jiang Xu returned to China last year to establish "BrightSource Innovations" in Shenzhen after leaving OpenAI, dedicating himself to embodied foundational models. This is also his first appearance at WAIC this year. Jiang Xu stated that in the past few years, the development of large models is essentially a process of continuously imitating humans and eventually surpassing them. The Internet has accumulated massive amounts of human text data over decades, and large language models gradually gained and eventually surpassed human abilities in many tasks by learning from this data. The development of embodied intelligence should also follow a similar path -- through large-scale imitation of humans, eventually achieving surpassing humans.
