Recently, a consumer claimed to have found a "blue potato chip" in Lay's potato chips, and this incident has continued to ferment. On the 16th, the consumer posted on social media platform that they had received a statement from Lay's, apologizing and stating: after verification, the blue potato chip is a coloring verification chip used by the factory, which does not affect food safety and quality. On the 17th, Lay's confirmed to reporters that the brand has fed back the investigation results to the consumer. According to reports, after discovering the blue potato chip, the consumer communicated with Lay's. The consumer revealed that PepsiCo's consumer quality hotline followed up on the blue potato chip issue and expressed apologies. After communication, the consumer confirmed that they could keep half of the normal yellow potato chips and half of the blue abnormal potato chips for retention, and then returned the suspected problematic chips via express delivery. In the latest statement, Lay's mentioned that after verification, the foreign object is a coloring verification chip used by the factory, used to confirm the stability of equipment and processes, which is one of the commonly used process verification methods in food production. The statement indicated that the coloring agent used by the factory complies with the relevant requirements of GB2760 "National Food Safety Standards for the Use of Food Additives" and does not affect food safety and quality. At the same time, Lay's also expressed apologies. "The factory took the initiative to invite me to visit the factory and production line, allowing me to understand the production process and quality control measures on site, making the paper-based statement more transparent and convincing." The consumer said that both demands have now been resolved: receiving an explanation and receiving a refund for the bag of chips. Public information shows that the Lay's brand is owned by PepsiCo and entered the Chinese market in 1993.
