SpaceX's "Starship" rocket was aborted before takeoff during its 13th test flight attempt.
Local time on Thursday, during the 13th flight test of SpaceX's Starship rocket in Texas, the launch was aborted at the last moment before liftoff, causing a delay of at least 24 hours. The company is currently investigating the possible reasons for this automatic abort.
"When we ignited the Raptor engine, it did trigger the booster's pause command, leading to the launch abort," SpaceX spokesperson Dan Huot said during the company's livestream. "We will take some time to investigate what triggered this abort when the booster was preparing for launch, and then determine the next course of action."
The launch abort occurred less than one second before the Starship was scheduled to lift off from SpaceX's company base, Starbase, in southern Texas at 6:45 pm Eastern Time. The rocket's engines shut down shortly after ignition.
