The National Health Commission held a press conference today with the theme of "Scientific Heatstroke and Disease Prevention, Healthy and Safe Summer", introducing the prevention and control of key infectious diseases in summer, heatstroke prevention, post-disaster epidemic prevention, and prevention of summer children's injuries. Dr. Chang Zhaorui, a researcher at the Infectious Disease Department of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, stated that since October 2025, the COVID-19 epidemic in China has been maintained at an endemic level for 8 and a half months with low virus activity. In late May this year, the epidemic showed a slight increase, entering a low epidemic level in mid-June. Recently, the positivity rate of COVID-19 virus testing at sentinel hospitals nationwide has slightly increased, indicating that although the epidemic is on the rise, it is still at a low epidemic level overall. The major circulating strain in China is still the NB.1.8.1 variant. Existing monitoring shows that no new variants that may pose additional public health risks have been found. Currently, the COVID-19 epidemic has evolved into a common respiratory infectious disease, and people do not need to be overly concerned about the normal fluctuations of the epidemic. With more travel during the summer, there is an increase in cross-regional population mobility. It is important to maintain good personal hygiene habits, such as hand hygiene, following cough etiquette, and ensuring proper ventilation. If someone around you experiences symptoms such as fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms, personal protective measures should be taken. If you experience respiratory symptoms yourself, monitor your health status, seek medical attention promptly if necessary, and follow medical advice for appropriate treatment.
