Supreme People's Procuratorate: In the first half of this year, a total of 603,000 criminal suspects were prosecuted.
According to the Supreme People's Procuratorate, from January to June 2026, the national procuratorial organs approved the arrest of 312,000 suspects of various crimes and prosecuted 603,000 people, a decrease of 4.4% and 11.5% respectively compared to the previous year. The procuratorial organs resolutely implement the overall national security concept, comprehensively and accurately implement the criminal policy of combining severity with mercy, and make every effort to ensure long-term stability and security of the country. They firmly maintain social stability, prosecute 24,000 people involved in serious violent crimes such as intentional homicide, robbery, and kidnapping. They are deepening the fight against organized crime and corruption on a regular basis, prosecuting 3,042 people involved in organized crime and corruption. They punish crimes such as human trafficking, drugs, gambling, theft, and robbery that are strongly reflected by the people, prosecuting 222,000 people. They deploy special activities for supervision of cases in the field of workplace safety, prosecuting 2,114 people involved in major accidents and dangerous operations, with the Supreme People's Procuratorate directly handling 2 major workplace safety accident cases. They conduct public interest litigation to safeguard workplace safety and handle 12,000 public interest lawsuits. They work with the Supreme People's Court to formulate judicial interpretations for handling criminal cases endangering civil aviation flight safety, to uphold public safety. They conscientiously implement the "Guiding Opinions on Applying the Leniency System for Confession and Punishment", with 84.6% of suspects voluntarily confessing in the procuratorial stage and a conviction rate of 97.1% in first-instance trials, 35.3 percentage points higher than cases not applying the system. They continue to implement the handling of drunk driving, cover-up, and aiding and abetting criminal cases, strengthen the legal management of common and frequent crimes, and enhance the sense of security among the people. They deepen the governance of the internet ecosystem, actively participate in special actions such as "Clean Internet 2026", legally punish internet violence, online rumors, online extortion, and "cyber armies", prosecuting 77,000 people for crimes committed using the internet. They intensify efforts to combat cross-border telecommunications and online fraud, prosecuting 32,000 people for telecommunications and online fraud. They have issued typical cases of personal information protection for citizens, prosecuting 2,641 people for infringing on personal information and handling 2,090 public interest litigation cases.
