Ministry of Water Resources: Starting today, China has entered the critical period of flood prevention known as "7th down, 8th up".
Starting from today, China has officially entered the key flood control period of "rise in the seventh lunar month and fall in the eighth lunar month" in 2026. The Ministry of Water Resources held a press conference this morning to introduce the flood control situation this year. Since the start of the flood season this year, a total of 25 numbered flood events have occurred in major rivers in China, with 609 rivers experiencing floods above the alarm level, 35% more than the average for the same period in the past five years. 97 small and medium-sized rivers have experienced floods above the guaranteed water level, and 14 rivers have experienced the largest floods on record. According to predictions, during this year's key flood control period, both the north and south of China will have rainy areas, with more floods than droughts, and localized heavy rain and floods will occur frequently. Strong typhoons moving northward will affect inland areas, and the flood control work will still face severe challenges.
