Our country's researchers propose a new path to increase self-sufficiency in soybeans.
Reporters learned on the 15th from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences that recently, the smart agriculture innovation team of this institute, in collaboration with multiple domestic and foreign institutions, proposed a new path to increase China's self-sufficiency rate of soybeans. Soybeans can be used for both consumption and as the main feed for livestock and poultry, serving as an important material to guarantee food security and stable meat supply. The research systematically reviewed the evolution of soybean consumption in China since 1961, and constructed demand forecasting models for the years 2030 and 2050. The research results indicate that synergistically promoting the utilization of saline-alkali land, the application of biotechnology, and the transition to a healthy diet can significantly increase China's self-sufficiency rate of soybeans. The international academic journal "Nature Food" recently published the related research results online.
