Thai Deputy Minister of the Interior Polapee Suwanchawee revealed to the media that the country plans to impose higher electricity rates on data centers. Polapee serves on the Energy Policy Committee and stated that the government will use the extra electricity fees collected from data centers to subsidize civilian electricity expenditures, with this fund being accounted for separately from residents' electricity bills. The official said that the Thai Energy Regulatory Commission will introduce specific electricity rate standards for data centers as early as the August electricity billing cycle.
