State Grid: The national computing power electricity consumption is expected to reach 800 billion kilowatt hours by 2030, accounting for about 6% of the total social electricity consumption.
The "China Power Industry Annual Development Report 2026" released by the China Electricity Council on the 14th shows that it is expected that the national electricity consumption of the whole society will increase by 5% -6% in 2026, and the annual new installed capacity will be approximately 400 million kilowatts. New energy is still the main source of new power installation, with conventional power increasing by around 100 million kilowatts, roughly matching the increase in maximum load. "The end of computing power is electricity, and promoting the synergy between computing and electricity is the inevitable way for China to win the global competitive advantage in the computing power industry in the next step," said Zhang Lin, Director of Planning and Development Department of China Electricity Council. It is estimated that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the annual incremental electricity consumption of computing power in the country will be more than 100 billion kilowatt-hours, reaching an estimated 800 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030, accounting for around 6% of the total national electricity consumption. Zhang Lin stated that in the future, energy resources allocation and computing power facility construction should be coordinated with a multi-dimensional approach to promote the synergy between computing and electricity according to the concept of "strengthening computing with electricity and promoting electricity with computing." In terms of planning and layout, for the computing power facilities in western regions, the national computing power hub layout should be coordinated with the planning of large-scale new energy bases to promote the coordinated construction of computing and power facilities; for the computing power facilities in eastern regions, the planning of distributed computing power, distributed power sources, microgrids, and virtual power plants should be promoted to meet the computing power demand in the nearest vicinity.
