Nippon Paint intends to invest 8.6 billion US dollars to acquire AkzoNobel's decorative paint business.
According to informed sources, Nippon Paint Holdings has submitted multiple acquisition offers for the decorative paint business under the Akzo Nobel group in the past month. Sources who declined to be named said that the Tokyo-listed company made an initial offer three weeks ago and updated the offer last week, valuing the business segment at 7.5 billion euros. The sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly, requested anonymity. The sources said that the acquisition price corresponds to about 12 times the target's profit before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization in 2026, but the Akzo Nobel management has not started negotiations with Nippon Paint on this offer, nor have they informed company shareholders about the proposed acquisition. The sources said that currently no final resolution has been reached between the two parties, and Nippon Paint may also terminate the acquisition plan.
