July 12th is International Day for the Prevention of Sand and Dust Storms. According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, in the past 20 years, the overall frequency and intensity of spring sand and dust weather in China have shown a decreasing trend, with the number of sand and dust weather events decreasing from an annual average of 12.5 times to 9.6 times in recent years. This spring, China experienced a total of 8 sand and dust weather events. In recent years, China has been adhering to the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sand, with a focus on the "Three-North" project, and comprehensively promoting desertification control. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the country completed the treatment of 152 million mu of sandy land. Since the launch of the three major symbolic battles of the "Three-North" project in June 2023, a total of 244 million mu of construction tasks have been completed, and a number of key governance projects have been accelerated. Since the beginning of this year, a central investment of 27.7 billion yuan has been allocated, with plans to implement 328 key projects and arrange construction tasks of over 95 million mu.
