World Health Organization official: Ebola outbreak in Africa may be much larger than reported statistics.
On the 10th local time, the director of the World Health Organization's Emergency Department, Cheikwe Ihekweazu, said that the true scale of the Ebola epidemic in Africa may be much larger than official statistics, with many infected individuals going undetected. Ihekweazu stated that in some areas of the Congo, four out of every five new Ebola cases have no known connection to existing patients. The actual scale of the outbreak may be two to four times higher than what official data shows. He mentioned that currently, about 90% of confirmed Ebola cases are still concentrated in the Ituri province, but the epidemic has spread to surrounding provinces.
