An estimated over 5000 people in Germany died in the June heatwave.
The Robert Koch Institute, Germany's public health agency, said on the 9th that an estimated 5,100 people in Germany died in June due to factors related to high temperatures, with the vast majority of the deceased being elderly. This number is much higher than the annual average of 2,900 deaths due to high temperatures in Germany from 2023 to 2025.
