Andy Burnham has won the support of the majority of Labour Party MPs and is expected to take over as the next Prime Minister of the UK.
On the first day of the UK Labour Party leadership election, Andy Burnham received nominations from 322 out of 403 Labour MPs, making him the only frontrunner to succeed Keir Starmer as the new leader of the Labour Party. Burnham expressed his "deep gratitude" for the support of his colleagues, stating that it reflects the party's desire to bring a new direction to British politics. His political proposals include reducing the concentration of power in Westminster, reshaping the economic model, and promoting broader economic growth. As his competitors were unable to obtain the 81 nominations required to run, Burnham only needs one more endorsement to officially become the sole candidate. According to the schedule, the Labour Party leadership election will end on July 17, and Burnham is expected to formally become the Prime Minister of the UK on July 20. The current leader, Starmer, as customary, will not participate in the nomination vote.
