This year, the intensity of the El Nio phenomenon may reach a record level.
Experts from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts recently stated that the overall strength of the current El Nio phenomenon is expected to set a new record, with regions around the world facing the risk of droughts, floods, and other extreme weather events. According to Agence France-Presse citing the center's expert Tim Stockdale, this year's El Nio phenomenon is completely different from the observations of the past 30 years, and forecast models show that it will be an "extreme" event. Stockdale also stated that he has never seen forecast models predict an El Nio event with such strong and consistent signals, and it is likely to break records.
