When the third generation Optimus, like every Tesla product before it, was delayed multiple times, some Tesla suppliers needed to produce emails in order to convince investors that Musk still intended to continue advancing what he called the largest industry in human history. The situation only recently improved. Several Tesla supply chain sources indicated that Tesla has finally issued specific Optimus parts procurement instructions, requiring suppliers to ramp up production to 1000 units per week by September this year, and then increase to 2000-2500 units per week by the end of the year. Two individuals close to suppliers said that Tesla would place orders about 2 months in advance, and they have already seen specific orders for hundreds of units in August. Based on this estimation, Tesla's suppliers will have the capacity to supply 100,000 units of Optimus components to Tesla by the end of the year. It is reported that before placing orders for the supply chain, at an executive meeting at the end of June, Musk approved the latest version of Optimus, meaning that after over three years of development, Optimus Gen 3 will finally move out of the lab and into mass production. Both supply chain sources mentioned that at this meeting, Musk instructed the team to achieve production targets by the end of the year, or else he would dismiss the entire Optimus procurement team - a move that would instill more confidence in the supply chain, capital markets, and even the entire robotics industry than any order or forecast could.
