The Russian anti-monopoly authority issued a warning to Apple regarding local application issues.
Russian newspaper "Businessman" quoted the statement from the Russian Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, reporting that the agency has issued a warning to Apple, demanding the removal of discriminatory clauses against Russian local search engines and compliance with regulations requiring pre-installation of domestic software on iOS devices. Apple must complete the rectification by July 15, otherwise it could face an anti-monopoly lawsuit and a maximum fine of 4 billion rubles. Russia's regulations requiring imported electronic devices to be pre-installed with domestic software will officially take effect in 2021. Previously, Apple had reached a compromise allowing Russian users to download a full set of local software services during the initial setup of a new device. The report quoted lawyers' opinions stating that this warning is also a response to Apple's removal of the VK series applications from the app store.
