Peru has declared a state of emergency in multiple regions due to the arrival of the El Nio phenomenon for a 60-day period.
The Peruvian government announced on the 2nd that due to the ongoing development of the El Nio phenomenon and the potential for heavy rainfall and significant disaster risks, several provinces nationwide have entered a state of emergency for 60 days. The government of Peru stated in an announcement that 796 districts and municipalities in provinces such as Ancash, Arequipa, and Piura have entered a state of emergency for 60 days. During this state of emergency, the government will take necessary measures to reduce disaster risks and carry out emergency response and post-disaster recovery work. The Peruvian El Nio Phenomenon Research Center recently released a report stating that the impact of the El Nio phenomenon near the coast of Peru is ongoing and is expected to continue until the summer of 2027. The El Nio phenomenon refers to the phenomenon of extensive and sustained abnormal warming of sea water in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, which often leads to abnormal climates in various regions around the world.
