The Russian gasoline supply crisis is beginning to affect the Central Asian region. Some countries in the region lack sufficient domestic fuel production and have long relied on imports from Russia. The landlocked country of Kyrgyzstan has appealed to regional partners, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan, to assist in ensuring energy security and maintaining stable supply of oil products in the domestic market. Gasoline prices in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan's western neighbor, have sharply increased, and Kazakhstan, the region's largest economy, is strengthening border controls to curb illegal fuel exports. Russia is facing gasoline shortages and its fuel supply is severely impacted due to drone attacks on refineries in Ukraine causing them to stop production. Local authorities and media reports indicate that by the end of June, approximately 90% of regions in Russia have experienced fuel rationing or some form of supply interruption.
