Armed individuals attack Nigerian school, 39 teachers and students kidnapped.
The government of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria said on June 30 that a school in the state was attacked by several armed individuals the day before, resulting in at least one teacher being killed and 36 students and 3 teachers being kidnapped. The attack took place at a secondary school in the Askira-Uba area of Borno State. The students were taking their graduation exams at the time of the incident. According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Borno State Governor quoted by the Associated Press, the kidnapped students include 25 girls and 11 boys aged between 15 and 18 years old. The head of the Borno State Ministry of Education, Rawa Aba Wakilbe, said they are working with security forces and the community to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped teachers and students. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack and kidnapping.
