Layout Unmanned Combat: UK Modifies Destroyer Replacement Plan
The British Ministry of Defense said on the 28th that it will abandon the original plan to replace old destroyers and instead purchase at least six "General Purpose Warships" to serve as the command center for unmanned combat systems. British media reports that the plan is for the Royal Navy's six Type 45 destroyers to retire by the end of 2038, and the government had originally intended to purchase a new generation of Type 83 destroyers as replacements. However, according to the new defense investment plan, the replacement vessels will now be hybrid-powered general-purpose warships, with deliveries expected to begin in the early 2030s. Analysts say that this move reflects the overall strategic adjustment of the British military towards unmanned combat and advanced combat capabilities.
