Toyota's sales in May have declined for the fourth consecutive month, dragged down by the Middle Eastern market among others.
Toyota Motor Corporation announced on Monday that its global car sales in May dropped for the fourth consecutive month year-on-year, dragged down by lower sales in China and the Middle East markets. Toyota stated in its announcement that global sales in May fell by 7.2% year-on-year to 834,279 vehicles; overseas sales plummeted by 9.6%, while domestic sales in Japan increased by 11.1% due to strong demand for models like RAV4 and bZ4X.
By region, sales in China fell by 31.7% due to challenging market conditions and rising oil prices, while sales in the Middle East dropped significantly by 38.6%. Despite being Toyota's largest market, sales in the United States saw a slight decrease of 0.6%. Global production decreased by 5.5% year-on-year, with production in the United States falling by 3.8% and production in Asia dropping by 13.3%, offsetting the production increase in Japan.
