557 drugs pass the first round of review for inclusion in the basic medical insurance drug list by 2026.
On June 29, the State Medical Insurance Administration announced the list and main information of drugs that passed the initial review for the 2026 catalog. Among them, 557 and 54 drugs respectively passed the preliminary form review of the basic medical insurance drug catalog and the commercial insurance innovative drug catalog. It was reported that the number of varieties applied for this year has further increased, with 818 applications involving 674 generic drug names, an increase of 100 applications and 41 generic drug names compared to 2025. The pass rate of the preliminary form review has significantly increased, with an overall pass rate of 92% excluding pre-registered varieties.
"The majority of the applied varieties are new drugs, with 343 new generic drugs approved within five years." An official from the State Medical Insurance Administration stated that this reflects the vigorous development of the pharmaceutical industry in China, with an increasing number of new drugs on the market, and pharmaceutical companies attaching great importance to and actively participating in the adjustment of the drug catalog. The form review is an examination of whether the applied drugs meet the reporting requirements for the current year's basic medical insurance catalog and commercial insurance innovative drug catalog, as well as the completeness of the drug application information. According to this year's adjustment plan, the form review is divided into four steps: initial review, public announcement of initial review results, re-examination, and final public announcement of results.
The public announcement period for this round is from June 29, 2026 to July 5, 2026. During this period, the public can supervise the eligibility criteria, related information, and preliminary form review results of the drugs listed for public announcement.
