Kingsoft Office's office product WPS responds to controversy over occupying space on the C drive again.
On June 27, Kingsoft Office announced that in response to recent user feedback on issues such as "default occupation of C drive" and "unclear cleaning entrance," WPS has completed the investigation and has started optimization. The optimized new version will be launched in July. Users can go to the WPS official website to download the update. In the installation process, the new version has added a path selection function on the installation interface. The installation path, file backup path, and cloud document storage path are set separately and not bound to each other, allowing users to clearly specify the storage location of files during installation. In the usage process, WPS has added a "storage management" module in the settings page. Various types of files such as cache, file backup, and cloud document cache are displayed in a centralized manner, showing the occupied and available space for release, allowing users to clean up with one click and providing clear feedback on the operation progress and release results. The storage path also supports self-modification, with the system verifying the space and permissions of the target disk before the change and displaying the progress in real time during the change. Kingsoft Office stated that the default storage of cache and backup in the C drive, with non-intuitive occupancy status, has indeed caused confusion for some high-frequency users. The core logic of this optimization is "selective installation, manageable usage," allowing users to clearly understand how much local storage is being used and which files can be cleaned up at every step from installation to usage, and allowing them to manage their storage autonomously at any time.
