"15th Five-Year Plan" introduces two new indicators in the energy sector to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction.
At the press conference held by the State Council Information Office today, Ren Yuzhi, director of the Development Planning Department of the National Energy Administration, introduced that the energy sector is the main battlefield for peaking carbon emissions. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, we will accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation of energy with greater efforts and more practical measures. Ren Yuzhi introduced that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China has set 5 quantitative indicators around transformation and carbon reduction. Among them, the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption, the proportion of non-fossil energy generation, and the proportion of electricity in final energy consumption have set higher targets compared to the "14th Five-Year Plan". Two new indicators have been added: one is the carbon emission intensity of power generation, with a goal of reducing by over 10% during the "14th Five-Year Plan"- this is a comprehensive indicator for enhancing the green transformation and efficiency improvement of China's power system; the other is the energy saving target for key industries, which aims to save over 150 million tons of standard coal through energy saving, carbon reduction renovations, and technological innovation in key industries during the "14th Five-Year Plan".
