During the 2026 MWC Shanghai, Huawei's Vice Chairman and Chairman in Rotation, Wang Tao, announced that the global number of 5G users has surpassed 3.1 billion, with 5G-A being deployed on a large scale in multiple countries. China alone has over 110 million 5G-A users. 2026 is a crucial turning point in the development of mobile communication technology, with the industry continuing to advance the ongoing iterations of 5G-A. It is expected that in March 2027, 3GPP R21 will be officially launched, setting mobile communication standards for the years 2030-2040. The capabilities and applications of mobile cellular IoT will further expand, with intelligent connectivity accelerating into the billions after 2030. By 2030, various intelligent entities globally will exceed billions, reaching trillions by 2040. The scope of connectivity will need to extend across all aspects of life, achieving 100% geographical coverage including high altitude and ocean areas. The density of intelligent entities in future hotspots is expected to surpass 10 million per square kilometer.
