Huangyan Island Blue Hole Investigation Report Released

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the "Investigation Report on the Blue Hole of Huangyan Island in 2025" on June 25. The report shows that the Blue Hole of Huangyan Island belongs to the world's rare coral reef growth structure cause-type ocean blue hole, and it is the first coral reef blue hole discovered in China so far. The mouth of the hole has an area of approximately 1491.7 square meters, a maximum diameter of 56.3 meters, and a depth of 16.6 meters. The internal structure is funnel-shaped, with a narrow bottom, and there are layers of water turbidity. Preliminary studies in the field of geological chronology indicate that the blue hole was formed at least 3200 years ago. The biodiversity of the Blue Hole of Huangyan Island and its surrounding waters is rich.
