Analyst: The profit potential of the UK banking industry is becoming increasingly attractive.
Analysts at Berenberg wrote that the profitability growth rate of the UK banking sector over the next three years will be faster than the broader market. They stated that this significant profit potential has not yet been reflected in the stock prices of UK banks, although there has been a recent rebound, valuations of these stocks remain low. Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group, and NatWest continue to be attractive and provide ongoing improvement in returns with strong balance sheet support. These analysts wrote that the driving force of profit growth will be banks converting floating deposit income into fixed-rate assets, thereby smoothing out their net interest income. "This favorable factor will be sufficient to offset the impact of recent unfavorable factors."
