The White House denies: Trump did not use the unapproved weight-loss drug Regorafenib through a compassionate use program.
White House officials on Tuesday refuted a rumor report that speculated President Trump obtained the weight-loss drug ruitelupe through the compassionate use program of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Ritulupe is developed and produced by Lilly, and has not yet received FDA approval for market launch. However, one patient was prescribed this drug through the program; which is specifically designed to provide experimental treatment drugs that have not yet been approved for critically ill patients. Three anonymous sources revealed to the medical industry media STAT News that the patient approved to use ritulupe is 79 years old, leading the media to speculate that the prescription holder is Trump, who turned 80 just last week. White House Deputy Press Secretary Kushti Dessay posted on X platform on Tuesday, directly pointing to journalist Lizzy Lawrence who wrote the report: "It must be made clear to Lizzy Lawrence that the facts have proven that you are just an unprofessional gossip columnist, and the applicant of this compassionate use drug is not the President himself." Lawrence stated that she had repeatedly written to the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services inquiring whether the President was using this weight-loss drug, but did not receive a response. She added, "Do you plan to individually ask all of the approximately 4 million Americans in this age group this absurd question, and then speculate that they are all applicants for this drug use application?"
