Starting next month, two new national standards will tighten the safety restrictions for electric vehicles.
Starting from July 1, 2026, two mandatory national standards, "Electric Vehicle Safety Requirements" and "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles," will be officially implemented. The new regulations will increase the alarm time for power battery ignition and explosion from 5 minutes before to no ignition and no explosion, reducing the incidence of power battery self-ignition accidents from the product design end, and adding a physical disconnection device to improve the reliability and timeliness of accident rescue. According to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association, from June 1 to 14, the retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the national passenger car market reached 63.9%; the wholesale penetration rate reached 67.9%. Against the background of the continuous increase in the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the market, the implementation of two new national standards will directly raise the industry's safety threshold. Experts believe that this new regulation will completely rewrite the industry's competitive logic, raise industry standards, increase compliance costs, and accelerate the industry's Matthew effect.
