Lei Jun discusses with writer Liu Zhenyun on the boundaries between AI and human creativity.
On June 21st, Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun appeared at the Beijing International Book Fair, where he engaged in a deep discussion on artificial intelligence and human creativity with renowned writer Liu Zhenyun. Lei Jun expressed during the conversation that as we enter the AI era, AI is becoming smarter, but still struggles to replace deep emotional expression. He stated that AI is more about imitation or repetition, rather than having its own characteristics. He concluded that science and art will coexist and intersect for the long term, and while AI and technology can help extend imagination, they cannot replace human work. "AI can replace poorly done literary works and poorly performing companies." Liu Zhenyun believes that AI surpasses humans in terms of big data and computing power, being able to read a book in ten seconds and acquire knowledge surpassing that of a person by two to three years. However, he then pointed out that the big data on which AI relies is essentially knowledge from the past, and for writers and entrepreneurs, innovation is the most important thing - innovation is precisely about creating something that originally did not exist on the basis of the past.
