Canada's retail sales in April increased by 0.5%.
Canada's retail sales in April increased for the fourth consecutive month, mainly driven by higher sales at gas stations and fuel retailers. Data released by Statistics Canada on Friday showed that retail sales in April increased by 0.5% compared to the previous month, reaching 73.03 billion Canadian dollars after seasonal adjustment. This growth was slightly lower than the agency's previous estimate of 0.6%, while the growth in March was 0.9%. Compared to the same period last year, retail sales in April increased by 3.7%. The agency also stated that based on preliminary data, retail sales in May increased by 1%; however, this data is based on feedback from only 52.1% of surveyed retailers and will be revised in the future.
