The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed 200 fatalities.
The Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kanba, stated during a press conference held in the province of Ituri on the 18th that the country's current round of Ebola epidemic has reached a total of 896 confirmed cases, including 232 deaths. The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned on the same day that the speed of the epidemic spread has exceeded the current response capacity and that insufficient contact tracing remains a major bottleneck for prevention and control. Kanba said that currently 383 patients are isolated or hospitalized, with 78 cumulative cases recovered. The country also reported 151 suspected cases, 35 of which have resulted in death. According to data from the Africa CDC, Uganda has reported a total of 19 confirmed cases, with 2 deaths and 7 recoveries.
