Several Chinese citizens were arrested for participating in illegal mining, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi issued a reminder.

In recent years, the Malawian government has stepped up efforts to combat illegal mining and cross-border mineral smuggling, and has completely banned the export of raw minerals. Individuals involved in unlicensed mining and illegal export of minerals will face serious criminal penalties, hefty fines, and may even be sentenced to several years in prison.
