On the 17th, Australia's Qantas Airways announced that it will open the world's first direct flight route between Sydney, Australia and London, UK in October 2027. This will also be the world's longest direct commercial flight route. Qantas said in a statement that this plan is part of its "Sunrise Project", using several Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft to operate the route. The one-way flight time will be shortened by 4 hours to approximately 19 hours, and ticket sales will begin in February 2027. Currently, due to the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East, Qantas flights between Perth, Australia and London require a stopover in Singapore.
