National Anti-Drug Office: The number of drug users among youth under 35 has decreased by 41.6% compared to last year.
This morning, the National Narcotics Control Commission held a press conference. Wei Xiaojun, executive vice director of the National Narcotics Control Commission and director of the Narcotics Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, introduced that in 2025, with the theme of preventing drug abuse among young people, the country will organize 197,000 anti-drug propaganda activities, directly covering 450 million people. Emphasis will be placed on young people, especially minors, in collaboration with seven departments including the Central Cyberspace Affairs Office and the Ministry of Education to carry out concentrated online propaganda and education. Special education will be deepened for students returning to school in the fall, and a national youth drug prevention knowledge competition will be held. The cognitive abilities of young people in preventing drug abuse will be significantly improved, with a 41.6% year-on-year decrease in the number of drug users under the age of 35 discovered throughout the year. A total of 134,000 drug users will be investigated and dealt with in 2025. Adhering to the principles of education, influence, and rescue, efforts will be made to strengthen intervention and correction for minors involved in drug-related activities, prevent drug abuse among minors, and prevent and manage drug-related crimes among minors to ensure the healthy growth of minors. The standardized construction of community drug rehabilitation and recovery centers will be promoted, and measures such as drug treatment, rehabilitation guidance, assistance and support, and employment assistance will be implemented. By the end of 2025, the number of individuals who have successfully abstained from drugs for more than three years nationwide has increased by 2.7% to 4.403 million.
