In the event of extreme disasters that result in the loss of ground network communication signals, citizens can utilize the Beidou Satellite Navigation System for emergency communication. The Beidou satellite SMS emergency communication service is now online. As long as a phone has Beidou satellite SMS functionality, users can send satellite SMS messages with precise location coordinates to timely convey disaster information, report their safety, or request for rescue. "No need to download any apps, messages can be sent directly from the messaging interface," said relevant technicians. The Beidou satellite SMS service relies on China's independently constructed Beidou satellite navigation system, specifically designed to solve the SMS sending and receiving difficulties in areas without ground signal coverage, suitable for flood and disaster prevention, outdoor driving, field duty, wilderness exploration, and crossing scenarios. This service is not subscription-based, charges are per message sent, and receiving messages is free. Citizens can directly use this service by enabling the Beidou satellite SMS functionality in their phone settings. Currently, all three major telecom operators support this service. Additionally, receivers of Beidou satellite SMS messages do not have specific requirements for their terminals, and phones without Beidou satellite SMS sending functionality can still receive messages normally.
