Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on the 15th that the country has secured its first defense contract under the "European Security Initiative" framework. According to a news release, Montreal-based defense technology company Macroni Technologies has been awarded a contract worth 10 million Canadian dollars to supply Canada-made "Orion" tactical radios to the Polish Network Command. The project will be carried out in partnership with a Polish technology company, involving nearly 100 Canadian companies, with deliveries expected to begin later this year and continue until 2030. The news release stated that joining the "European Security Initiative" means Canadian defense companies can compete for contracts in Europe, thereby creating job opportunities domestically. In May of last year, the European Council officially approved the establishment of the "European Security Initiative" tool, providing financial support of up to 150 billion euros for member states to procure security and defense weapons and equipment. The "European Security Initiative" offers funds to EU member states in need in the form of long-term loans with preferential interest rates, with 35% of the loans available for the purchase of weapons components produced outside Europe. Earlier this year, Canada became the first non-European country to join the "European Security Initiative".
