The EU and Ukraine officially launch the first accession negotiation topic.

The European Council announced on the 15th that the EU and Ukraine officially launched negotiations on the "basic principles" of Ukraine's accession to the EU negotiation process on that day. The announcement stated that the "basic principles" issue covers the EU's core values and basic principles, including the rule of law and basic rights, the functioning of democratic institutions, public administration reform, and economic standards under EU laws and regulations. The announcement pointed out that in the process of Ukraine's accession negotiation, the "basic principles" issue is the core issue that is initiated first and concluded last, and its progress will determine the pace of the entire accession negotiation. During the negotiations, the EU will continue to evaluate Ukraine's progress in harmonizing with the EU legal system and implementing relevant standards.
